Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly referred to as food stamps, provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families in need so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency. To get SNAP benefits, you must apply in the state in which you currently live and meet certain requirements, including resource and income limits. Most SNAP eligibility rules apply to all households, but there are special rules for college students. Unfortunately, international students are not eligible for SNAP benefits as this is a federal program.
Auburn Cares partners with the local SNAP office to allow students the opportunity to meet one-on-one to discuss their financial situation and whether they qualify for SNAP. The SNAP representative is available to meet with students on the first Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. Meetings are held at the Campus Food Pantry (Lupton Hall) and last 10 minutes. Sign up to meet with a SNAP representative.
