Full Medical Withdrawal

Back to Types of Medical Withdrawals Page

A medical withdrawal is appropriate when, by recommendation of a licensed health care provider, you cannot continue enrollment in your courses because of a physical and/or psychological illness. A full medical withdrawal removes the student from all courses and will result in zero credit hours for the semester.

How to Complete a Medical Withdrawal

  1. Complete the online Medical Withdrawal Application.
  2. Schedule a meeting with Auburn Cares to discuss your case. Meetings can be in person, via zoom or over the phone depending on your preference.
  3. Ask your licensed health care provider to submit medical documentation that supports your application directly to Auburn Cares. All medical documentation must follow our Medical Documentation Guidelines.

Once the above steps are completed and Auburn Cares has received appropriate documentation, your professors will be contacted to confirm your last date of attendance and/or assignment submission. This information will be communicated to Student Business and Account Services, University Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office to finish processing your application. This process can take two to three weeks to complete and you will be notified via email when it is done.

All medical withdrawal applications submitted after the withdrawal deadline (see the academic calendar for the withdrawal deadline date) will automatically become retroactive.

If you have any questions about this process, email the Medical Withdrawal Coordinator or call the Auburn Cares Office at (334)-844-1305.
