Family Medical Withdrawal

Back to Types of Medical Withdrawals Page

A family medical withdrawal is appropriate in the case of the death or serious illness of a student’s immediate family member. A family medical withdrawal removes the student from all courses and will result in zero credit hours for the semester.

How to Complete a Family Medical Withdrawal

  1. Complete the online Medical Withdrawal Application.
  2. Schedule a meeting with Auburn Cares to discuss your case. Meetings can be in person, via zoom or over the phone depending on your preference.
  3. Submit documentation to Auburn Cares.

Once the above steps are completed and Auburn Cares has received appropriate documentation, your professors will be contacted to confirm your last date of attendance and/or assignment submission. This information will be communicated to Student Business and Account Services, University Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office to finish processing your application. This process can take two to three weeks to complete and you will be notified via email when it is done.

All family medical withdrawal applications submitted after the withdrawal deadline (see the academic calendar for the withdrawal deadline date) will automatically become retroactive.

If you have any questions about this process, email the Medical Withdrawal Coordinator or call the Auburn Cares Office at (334)-844-1305.
