Auburn University Scholarships

The University uses AUSOM to manage scholarships. Please make sure to indicate your military affiliated status on your AUSOM application so that you can qualify for some of the below scholarships.

Eligibility: Must be a uniformed U.S. military service member on active duty, inactive reserves, or honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces, with preference to students who demonstrate financial need. To receive consideration, select “Veteran” when prompted while completing the General Application within AUSOM.

Deadline: March 1, 2024

Eligibility: Must be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, and be enrolled in the Veterans Success program. Applicants should be entering into or already in their junior or senior year in the upcoming fall semester. Students who are awarded the Veteran Success Program scholarship will be expected to enroll and participate in an 8-month mentorship program. Starting in August, each student will meet with an assigned mentor once a month to discuss professional development and networking opportunities. All applicants for this scholarship should be prepared to attend these monthly meetings. To receive consideration, select “Veteran & ROTC” when prompted while completing the General Application within AUSOM.

Eligibility: Must be a recipient of the Purple Heart or a dependent of a Purple Heart recipient, with preference to students who demonstrate financial need. To receive consideration, select “Veteran & ROTC” when prompted while completing the General Application within AUSOM.

Eligibility: Preference to uniformed U.S. Military service members on active duty, inactive reserves, or honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces and current residents of Auburn, Alabama who demonstrate financial need. First preference given to uniformed U.S. Military service members on active duty, inactive reserves, or honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces and current residents of Auburn, Alabama who are graduates of a high school in Lee County, Alabama. Second preference to uniformed U.S. Military service members on active duty, inactive reserves, or honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces and current residents of Auburn, Alabama who are graduates of a high school in Alabama. Requires a copy of the DD-214 Form (Report of Separation) and proof of student’s legal dependency as defined by IRS code. To receive consideration, select “Veteran & ROTC” when prompted while completing the General Application within AUSOM.

Eligibility: Must be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces that is pursuing a graduate degree at Auburn University with preference to students who demonstrate financial need. Applications are open on a yearly basis.

ASVA Scholarships

Every year, the ASVA raises money in support of student veterans through the Annual Gala. Application for scholarships open every Fall semester, and they are available to ASVA members.  

Award Amount: $5,000

The Luther Parker Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Luther Parker, a distinguished Auburn alumnus and a veteran who embodied the Auburn Creed in every aspect of his life. This scholarship is awarded to a student veteran who demonstrates the same principles of integrity, honor, and service to others.

The recipient must exemplify leadership in their academic pursuits and extracurricular activities, show a commitment to helping their fellow students, and demonstrate adherence to the core values of the Auburn Creed: hard work, loyalty, and respect for others. Whether through academic achievement, community service, or involvement in veteran-related initiatives, this student represents the best of Auburn University and carries forward the legacy of Luther Parker.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Demonstrates academic excellence.
  • Participates in community service or leadership roles.
  • Exemplifies the values of the Auburn Creed in their everyday actions.

Award Amount: $2,500

Coach Kim Evans, a highly respected coach of Auburn’s Women’s Golf team, is known for her dedication to excellence and her ability to inspire perseverance in the face of adversity. This scholarship, named in her honor, is awarded to a student veteran who has demonstrated exceptional initiative, overcoming personal or academic challenges to achieve success.

Recipients of this scholarship are students who do not shy away from difficulty but face it head-on, with the determination to improve themselves and their community. Their story reflects a resilience and commitment to continuous improvement, much like the values Coach Evans upheld throughout her illustrious career.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Demonstrates resilience and perseverance in overcoming challenges.
  • Shows initiative and commitment to academic and personal growth.
  • Actively contributes to the veteran community at Auburn University.

Award Amount: $2,500

This scholarship honors Gunnery Sergeant (Gunny) Garcia, whose leadership and commitment to service were an inspiration to all who knew him. Awarded to a student veteran who demonstrates exceptional leadership abilities, the Gunny Garcia Leadership Scholarship seeks to reward those who have made a significant impact within their community or the university.

The recipient must exhibit strong leadership qualities, whether in their academic department, student organizations, or community activities. They are someone who leads by example, fosters teamwork, and promotes service, all while adhering to the highest standards of personal integrity.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Proven leadership within the Auburn University community or veteran-related initiatives.
  • Commitment to service and support for fellow students and veterans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that inspire others.

Award Amount: $2,500

The Johnny Lawrence Achievement Scholarship is awarded to a student veteran who exemplifies academic excellence and a commitment to achieving personal and professional goals. Johnny Lawrence, an Auburn alumnus and veteran, overcame numerous obstacles to achieve success both academically and in his career, making him a model for determination and achievement.

This scholarship is given to a student who demonstrates a passion for learning and a drive for success, maintaining a high standard of academic achievement while balancing the unique challenges faced by student veterans.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Demonstrates outstanding academic performance.
  • Shows a commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Maintains a balance between academic responsibilities and veteran-related commitments.

Award Amount: $2,500

Named after Jed Grant, a veteran who exemplified perseverance in all aspects of his life, this scholarship is awarded to a student veteran who has faced and overcome adversity with determination and grace. Whether the challenges have been personal, academic, or professional, the recipient of the Jed Grant Perseverance Scholarship has shown an unwavering commitment to continue moving forward.

This scholarship recognizes that the journey to success is rarely easy and honors those who, despite obstacles, remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence. The recipient’s story should reflect a significant challenge that they have navigated with resilience, serving as an inspiration to others.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Has faced significant challenges in life and demonstrated perseverance in overcoming them.
  • Displays determination and resilience in their academic or personal journey.
  • Contributes positively to the Auburn veteran community despite personal struggles.

Award Amount: $5,000

The Mr. Brightside Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Josh Marshall, who was known for his optimism, energy, and determination to find the silver lining in every situation. This scholarship is awarded to a student veteran who, like Mr. Brightside, demonstrates an optimistic outlook, perseverance, and a positive influence on those around them.

The recipient of this scholarship must have not only demonstrated academic success but also a positive impact on their community, spreading hope and optimism to others. They are a source of encouragement to their peers and embody the spirit of perseverance, even in the face of adversity.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Shows an optimistic, can-do attitude in all aspects of life.
  • Demonstrates academic achievement and community involvement.
  • Positively influences peers and contributes to a supportive, encouraging environment at Auburn.
