Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill®

Member must have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001 and still be on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program. This bill is transferable to dependents.

Fry Scholarship

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) is a scholarship for children and spouses of veterans who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, while serving in the Armed Forces, or who died from a service-connected disability as a member of the Selected Reserve.

  • A monthly housing allowance (MHA) is based on the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents at the location of the school (for BAH rates please visit Learn how the VA determines the monthly housing allowance). For those enrolled solely in distance learning the housing allowance payable is equal to ½ the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents. Active duty students and their spouses cannot receive the MHA. The stipend is paid proportionately based on enrollment.
  • Benefit pays a book stipend at the rate of $41.67 per credit hour. This stipend has a maximum payable amount of $1,000 per academic year (fall, spring, and summer)

Rudisill Supreme Court Decision

Per the VA: "On April 16, 2024, the Supreme Court of the United States decided that if you served at least two periods of service-one that qualifies for the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) and another that qualifies for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (PGIB)-you may be able to receive additional GI Bill benefits."
