Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB)

Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB-AD)

Typically, students who first entered active duty after June 30, 1985 are eligible. However, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) determines a person’s eligibility for VA Education Benefits based on the military records they have on file for a service member, veteran, or a transferee. The monthly benefit paid to you is based on the type of training you take, length of your service, your category, any college fund eligibility, and if you contributed to the $600 buy-up program. You usually have 10 years to use your Montgomery benefits, but the time limit can be fewer or more years depending on the situation.

For more information about this benefit, visit the Veterans Affairs website.

Additional Information:

All Chapter 30 recipients MUST SUBMIT A MONTHLY verification of enrollment. Call on or after the last day of the month 1-877-823-2378. You can also register online using the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment.

Per the VA: "On April 16, 2024, the Supreme Court of the United States decided that if you served at least two periods of service-one that qualifies for the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) and another that qualifies for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (PGIB)-you may be able to receive additional GI Bill benefits."
