About The Melton Student Center

Our Mission

The Melton Student Center provides services and facilities that support the social, personal and intellectual development of individual students and groups of students. This is accomplished through structured activities, programs and resources. Well-maintained and secure facilities are also provided to students, faculty, staff administrative professionals, administrative and academic departments, groups, alumni and the community. This objective supports the instructional, research and outreach missions of Auburn University and enhances the overall educational process for students.

About Harold D. Melton

The Auburn Student Center is named for Harold D. Melton, former chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and the first person of color elected as the university’s student body president.

Melton, from Marietta, Georgia, studied international business and Spanish at Auburn, graduating in 1988. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991. He has served on the Georgia Supreme Court since 2005 and was sworn in as its chief justice in 2018. He serves as a board member of the Atlanta Youth Academies and on the national, local and collegiate boards for Young Life Ministries.
