Dining Accommodations
Tiger Dining supports student success by providing a variety of nutritious dining options in convenient locations throughout campus; however, we offer meal plan accommodations for students who may not eat on campus due to extreme medical conditions, religious dietary restrictions, or because they are enrolled in classes far away from campus for the semester.
Dining Accommodation requests, including required documentation, must be submitted by the 10th class day of each semester unless you have a newly-diagnosed medical condition.
Our full-time registered dietitian (RD) is available to help you find appropriate food options on campus, as well as to provide one-on-one support if you have special dietary needs. Visit aub.ie/DiningRD to connect with our RD. Our RD played a key role in creating the menus for the True Balance Allergen Solutions stations in our dining halls, which serve a menu free from the top nine food allergens and gluten (no wheat, soy, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, or gluten).
We offer two types of accommodations: reductions and exemptions.
Meal Plan Reductions
A reduction may be available to qualifying students who are enrolled in an Orange or Blue meal plan. These students may receive a refund of unused Dining Dollars at the end of the semester (meals are not refundable).
Tiger Dining provides a meal plan reduction for students who are enrolled in an Orange or Blue meal plan and have a significant medical condition that cannot be fully accommodated at campus dining facilities. Students must apply for a medical reduction, and if approved, credit will be automatically deposited to the student’s eBill account after final exams are complete each semester.
In order to receive a medical reduction, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in an Orange or Blue meal plan.
- Complete the online medical dining accommodation request, specifically requesting a dining plan reduction.
- Provide documentation signed by a licensed physician who is not a family member. This information must be submitted to our registered dietitian, who keeps files securely locked and protected.
How it works
Only the Dining Dollars portion of the meal plan is eligible for a refund. If there are no Dining Dollars left, there will be nothing to refund. However, if you are eligible for a refund, it will be applied to your eBill account by the end of December (Fall) and the end of May (Spring).
Example
A student is enrolled in the Orange 5 + $475 meal plan, which provides five weekly meal swipes plus $475 Dining Dollars. The student has also been approved for a meal plan reduction by completing the medical meal plan accommodation form. At the end of the semester, the student has used $275 of their $475 Dining Dollars, so they receive a credit of $200 to their eBill account.
Tiger Dining provides a reduced meal plan for students who are enrolled in an Orange or Blue meal plan and are members of a fraternity with a required meal plan of 10 or more meals per week. There is no application required for this program. Greek Life provides a list of qualifying members to the Tiger Dining office at the conclusion of each semester. Any credit will be automatically deposited to the student’s eBill account after final exams are complete.
To be eligible, students must meet both qualifications:
- Participate in an Orange or Blue meal plan.
- Be a member of a fraternity that has a required meal plan providing at least 10 meals per week.

Meal Plan Exemptions
An Exemption completely removes the dining plan from a student’s account. A student may qualify for an exemption due to one of the following reasons:
A student living on campus may be eligible for a medical exemption if they have a medical condition with severe dietary restrictions that prohibit them from eating foods served on campus. Students applying for this exemption must meet with Tiger Dining’s registered dietitian and register with the Office of Accessibility. The Office of Accessibility will review each student’s case to determine whether the student qualifies for a medical exemption.
A student living on campus with a medical condition that restricts their diet but does not prohibit them from eating foods served on campus may instead request a medical dining plan reduction.
Dining plan medical accommodation requests must be completed during the first 10 days of class; however, if a diagnosis is received after the 10th class day, students should contact the Tiger Dining office.
Students are automatically assigned a meal plan when they enroll in a class or internship that provides course credit. When participating in a course that does not meet on Auburn’s main campus, such as an internship, full-semester study abroad program, distance learning (online classes), or co-op work rotation, a student may still see a dining plan charge on their eBill. To receive an Away From Campus Exemption, students are required to submit a PDF copy of their semester schedule (including the student’s name, Banner ID, and full semester schedule). This PDF is uploaded as part of the application, which must be completed during the first 10 days of class.
In accordance with religious practice, some students adhere to a strict diet requiring foods or methods of preparation that may not be available on campus. Requests for a religious exemption must be submitted to the Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance (EOC) within the first 10 days of class and are reviewed by the EOC office.
