How to manage disruptive classroom behavior
Manage Disruptive Classroom Behavior
-
Include guidelines for classroom behavior in the syllabus.
-
If problematic behavior arises, offer a general caution to the entire class that addresses what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable.
-
If the behavior persists, request an individual meeting with the student. In the meeting be sure that you:
-
Describe the problem behavior.
-
Give the reason the behavior is disruptive.
-
Explain the consequences of any continued violation.
-
-
If the behavior still persists, the instructor is authorized to ask the disruptive student to leave the class immediately for the remainder of the class period.
-
Report the behavior to the Office of Student Conduct and your department head/chair.
