Auburn University’s ability to effectively respond to hazing concerns and uphold the Code of Student Conduct depends on the accuracy and detail of the information shared. To support timely and appropriate action, we encourage you to include as many specifics as possible—such as location, dates, times, a description of the activity, and names of those involved.
You may submit the report anonymously if you wish; however, please note that doing so may limit the University’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation, especially if follow-up information is needed.
Knowingly making a false accusation of hazing is strictly prohibited. Any member of the campus community found to have submitted a false report may face disciplinary action, including termination of employment or suspension/expulsion.
Student Organization Investigation Process
When a report is filed, an investigation begins. This process ensures the rights of all parties are respected and that appropriate actions are taken. Follow along to review the steps involved in investigating a student organization after a report has been filed.
All hazing reports are referred to Student Conduct for review, in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Code of Student Conduct. Cases involving organizations governed by the Interfraternity Council (IFC) follow the Interfraternity Council Judicial Process.
For all cases, Student Conduct will:
- Contact the individual who submitted the report, known or anonymous, to collect additional information.
- Evaluate if there is enough information to investigate. The evaluation will consider whether Auburn students were involved or if there was a potential policy violation, for example.
Once evaluated, the case will proceed to investigation or will be closed if it does not violate Auburn University Policies.
When merit is found with a submitted report, Student Conduct will:
- Appoint investigators to the case.
- Issue a Notice of Investigation.
- Meet with organizational student leadership and advisors.
- Support the work of the investigators to collect information and generate a report.
- Evaluate the investigation report.
- Charge individuals and/or organizations when sufficient information confirms hazing occured.
- Resolve the case using the informal resolution process or through a hearing of the Auburn University Student Conduct Committee.
- Report allegations of hazing in the Annual Security Report and the Campus hazing Transparency Report.
Interfraternity Council (IFC) Cases
For cases involving IFC member organizations, after the investigation report has been provided by Student Conduct, the IFC will:
- Evaluate the report through the IFC Referral Committee.
- Charge IFC organizations when there is sufficient information that hazing has occurred.
- Resolve the case using the informal resolution process or through a hearing of the IFC Court.
- Report allegations of hazing in the Annual Security Report and the Campus Hazing Transparency Report.
Auburn University Employee Cases
For cases involving employees of Auburn University, Student Conduct will:
- Contact Human Resources to join the investigation team.
Upon completion of the investigation, the employee will be referred to Human Resources for adjudication of any policy violations.
