Auburn Interfraternity Council Hosts Second Annual Murph Challenge, Raising Over $7,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation
Honoring sacrifice through service, resilience, and community impact.
Auburn University’s Interfraternity Council (IFC) proudly hosted its second annual IFC Murph Challenge on Sunday, November 16th, bringing together fraternity men, ROTC participants, and students from across campus for a day of unity, resilience, and service. Held at the Auburn ROTC Training Course, this year’s event welcomed nearly 100 participants and raised over $7,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation, supporting families of fallen and injured service members.
The Murph Challenge, named in honor of Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy, continues to grow as a signature IFC philanthropy event. Participants completed the traditional Murph workout: a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 sit-ups, and a second 1-mile run, paying tribute to the physical and mental strength embodied by Lt. Murphy and all who serve.
“Getting to organize the second annual IFC Murph event was one of the most rewarding things I've been able to do in college. To see men from all different fraternities come together to support a great cause is truly special,” said Evan Pope, IFC Executive Vice President. “Being able to partner with the Navy Seal Foundation means so much to myself and many people within Greek Life who have parents and family members who have served in the Navy. This year we had over 90 participants from over 15 different chapters, so it was awesome to see the growth from last year in that aspect. My hope for the Murph event is that it continues to be one of our premiere philanthropy events, and that it continues to grow in number and sponsors so we can continue to bring fraternity men together to support a great cause. Getting the opportunity to serve on IFC and put together events such as the Murph has taught me so many invaluable skills that I wouldn't otherwise have learned, and I'll always be thankful for the impact it has left on my life.”
In addition to the main challenge, IFC partnered with Draft House for a Murph Benefit Day on Tuesday, November 11th. The Auburn community showed strong support, with 10% of sales donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation, contributing significantly to the final fundraising total.
IFC Coordinator Jonathan Belmontes shared his appreciation for the participants and the impact of the event, “The IFC Murph Event stands as a testament to unity, resilience, and purpose. In just our second year, we’ve raised over $7,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation and welcomed an even greater turnout than before, proving that when we come together, we can honor sacrifice and make a lasting impact. I am very proud of the IFC and their commitment to partnering with an amazing cause.”
The IFC Murph Challenge continues to serve as an opportunity for fraternity members and the wider Auburn community to engage in the meaningful event, honor those who serve, and demonstrate Auburn’s spirit of leadership and support.
