PGA is a program designed to facilitate the process of hiring graduate assistants in Student Affairs at Auburn University. Many potential graduate students seek an assistantship as part of their studies to defray costs and to enrich their educational experience.

No. Individual graduate programs have different application deadlines and acceptance dates. Offers made for assistantships will be contingent upon admission into a graduate program prior to the desired start date for each position. You must be enrolled in classes to begin your assistantship. If you are not enrolled in classes during the summer semester, the hiring department may offer to hire you through Auburn University Temporary Employment Services.

No. However, as Auburn University Human Resources and Graduate School continue to review positions, your assistantship must connect to your academic degree program for tuition waiver and benefit purposes. Most of our graduate assistants are in the following programs: Higher Education, Adult Education, Counseling, Educational Psychology, or similar programs. PGA is open to any potential graduate student who is considering graduate studies at Auburn University and has a desire to work in a student-centered environment.

As a part of the hiring process, all Graduate Assistant candidates must get approval from their academic program coordinator and the Graduate School confirming the student’s academic program of study is directly related to their assistantship assignment. Unrelated assignments will not be eligible for tuition waivers or stipends, and students will not be approved for hire as a Graduate Assistant.

Interested applicants should apply through the Apply to PGA tab and follow the online application system as directed. Complete applications and resumes must be submitted before any interviews can be scheduled. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Interviews are offered at the discretion of each office. During the application process, candidates may request interviews based on their interest in a specific office and position. Candidates will be notified of interview offers by email.

The Higher Education Student Association, or HESA, is an organization comprised of higher education graduate students who create opportunities to connect through social events, professional development meetings, and networking. Most student in HESA are in the Higher Education graduate degree programs, although HESA supports any graduate students working in Student Affairs roles. There is no formal application to join and all graduate students are welcome.
