FAQs

See below for commonly asked questions about PGA.  If you have any further questions, please contact us.

What is PGA?

PGA is designed to facilitate the process of hiring graduate assistants in Student Affairs at Auburn University.  Most of our students are looking to continue after their graduate assistantships into the same or similar fields.  We are proud to provide a practical experience balancing education, practice, challenge, and support to help you reach your career goals while improving our programs.

Do I have to be accepted to graduate school in order to participate?

Individual graduate programs have different application deadlines and acceptance dates. Offers made for assistantships will be contingent upon admission into a graduate program prior to the desired start date for each position. You must be enrolled in classes to begin your assistantship. If you are not enrolled in classes during the summer semester, the hiring department may offer to hire you through Temporary Employment Services (TES).

Am I restricted to be in a specific academic program(s)?

No.  However, as Human Resources and the Graduate School continue to review positions, your academic degree program should connect to your assistantship for tuition waiver purposes. Most of our graduate assistants are in the following programs: Higher Education, Adult Ed, Counseling, Educational Psychology, etc.  Other positions may lend themselves to other degree programs.  If you have questions, please email pga@auburn.edu.

Who can participate in PGA?

PGA is open to any potential graduate student who is considering graduate studies at Auburn University and has a desire to work in a student-centered environment.

As a part of the hiring process, all Graduate Assistant candidates must get approval from their academic program coordinator and the Graduate School confirming the student’s academic program of study is directly related to their assistantship assignment.  Unrelated assignments will not be eligible for tuition waivers or stipends, and students will not be approved for hire as a Graduate Assistant.
