A Letter to the Auburn student body from Bobby Woodard
The safety of our students is my highest priority as Auburn’s vice president for student affairs. Spring is here, and with it comes Spring Break and many other exciting events. These events, however, also pose potential for bad decision making and alcohol abuse.
Therefore, I want to offer the following advice to any Auburn student or member of the AU Family: always select a designated driver who will not drink at all. Remember the words of Mike Lutzenkirchen, “There is no reason to drive after drinking. You owe it to your families to look out for each other. Have the courage to tell your friends not to do it.”
Please take note of these safety tips for your spring break trip and other events:
Pay attention to your surroundings.
Use the buddy system and try not to go anywhere alone.
Trust your instincts and avoid dangerous situations.
Always keep your cellphone with you.
Never drink and drive, or get into the car with someone who has been drinking.
Your spring break is well-deserved. Treat next week as a mental break from studying and remember to get some rest. Have fun, but never risk your health or safety.
